Our History
New Mexico’s former First Lady, Alice King’s resolve to support and nurture the children of her state resulted in the creation of the New Mexico Children’s Foundation. With her vision, New Mexicans formed the beginnings of a permanent fund that offers a vehicle for non-profit organizations across the state help children reach their full potential.

Meet our Executive Director, Jonika Horton
Jonika leverages her background in leadership, marketing, and strategic development to support our organizational mission. She holds an MBA in Marketing and most recently served as the VP of Marketing for Sandia Area Credit Union and Manager of Product Marketing for First Tech Federal Credit Union. As an active board member, prior to stepping into the role, Jonika shares our organizational vision and has played an integral role in our growth. Her expertise from serving on the boards of several other nonprofits, including Acequia Madre Parent Teacher’s Committee and the American Marketing Association, further enriches our team.
“I continue a legacy of our family’s support for New Mexico Children’s Foundation, as my father-in-law, David Dodge, served on the board for several decades. New Mexico’s children are at the heart of everything we do, and it’s been an honor to contribute to an organization so deeply committed to their well-being. I believe in the power of community and collaboration to lift up our youth and give them the resources they need to flourish. In this role, I am focused on expanding our impact, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring we continue to support children across the state.”
Jonika would love to connect face-to-face with those interested in supporting the organization, so please reach out: jhorton@nmchildren.org.
